Mangaluru, Dec 28, 2016: This year not withstanding the ’demonitization’ which has become a fault for all ills, it seen that this coastal city of Mangalur, is all set to welcome the New Year 2017 with food, fun and frolic. Most of the hotels and city’s prominent clubs have planned a gala with food, dance and spirits, with renowned DJs being invited to host the celebrations.

But if you are not the ’spirited’ kind and want pure fun, Panambur Beach is the place to be. Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project (PBTDP) CEO Yatish Baikampady said there will be entertainment, games, music by amateur and professional singers, local bands and food festival where all types food will be served.

The highlight will be night kite flying from 9pm to 12 midnight. Team Mangalore’s massive ’Dampathi’ applique delta kite will be main attraction at night kite flying. ’Dampathi’ featured at the 19th International Kite Festival at Dieppe Beach in France in September. Team Mangalore Founder Sarvesh Rao said night kite flying will be a special attraction with focus lights on them. Yatish said that entry into the beach will be restricted after 9pm to prevent unruly crowds. "We will divert vehicles from Koorikatta Gate so that there are no late entrants and gate crashers,’’ he said. Entry to the vent is free.

In case if you want to be in high spirits and want to contribute to charity, City Beach is the place to be. ’Reflections’ organised by Mangalore Round Table 115 and Mangalore Ladies Circle 82 will give guest all the fun and ticket prices include food and spirits. A Tabler, Lester D’Souza, said all proceeds will go to charity. Two DJs from Mumbai will be attendance here.


If you want to groove to the beats of yesteryears, then Ocean Pearl is the place to be. Hotel Ocean Pearl General Manager Girish BN said this year’s theme is ’Retro to Metro’. Bollywood hit songs from the early 70’s are played progressively through the 80’s, 90,s and till current year, he said adding the decor in the hall are done as per the theme and Bollywood dance team members will perform.

The New Year bash at 2 Acres, Bondel, will have bike and cycle stunts, dragon dance and a fire cracker show as special attractions.

In the outskirts, Pandit Health Resort and Spa, Alangar, Moodbidri is organising a New Year bash. Added attraction apart from music and entertainment will be bonfire and fireworks. The Gateway Hotel, Hotel Moti Mahal and Gold Finch too have New Year bashes.
