Since River Nethravathi is now close to the danger mark in Kallapu, Panemangalore, and Bantwal, the district administration positioned boats on Tuesday to assist in emergency conditions and instructed Home Guards to be alert.

Additional Deputy Commissioner K. Dayanand said that the River Nethravathi is now flowing at 8.1m and is close to the danger mark of 8.5m. According to police sources, areas such as Madaka, Bastipadpu, Bandribettu, and Jakribettu have been inundated and seven houses in Bantwal have been damaged. Mr. Dayanand said that a boat has been kept ready in Bantwal in case of emergencies. Since the Hosmat Bridge is submerged, vehicles can no longer move over it.

In the twin districts of Udupi and Mangalore, the rivers are overflowing and bridges linking Uppinangady to Subrahmanya and Gundya to Subrahmanya are submerged, making it difficult for people to approach the temple town. On Tuesday, Kadaba received the highest rainfall of 151.3mm followed by Belthangady, which received 141.6mm; Puttur, which received 134.9mm; Sullia, which received 115.4mm; Bantwal, which received 39.6mm; and Mangalore, which received 12.6mm.

MLA U. T. Khader has urged the district administration to take all the required steps to deal with floods in Mangalore. Since the city does not have proper storm water drains, water could be seen flooding the roads in several places across the city. Sea erosion is also a major problem in areas such as Mukka, Hosabettu, Chitrapura, Sasihithlu, Kotepura, and Ullal.

B. Abhijin, tahsildar for Udupi, said that reports of sea erosion have arrived from Bada Yermal, owing to which the district administration is considering placing boulders to prevent further erosion.

Udupi received 34.13mm rainfall on Tuesday, while Kundapur recorded the highest rainfall of 51mm followed by Karkala, which received 35.8mm, and Udupi, which received 15.6mm.

Since a drain in Kabbinale has been washed away, vehicles could not move over the road connecting Kabbinale to Muniyala. Chandrashekar Bayari, president of the Mudradi GP, and Mudradi Manjunath, member of the ZP, visited the place and said that the drain will be repaired at the earliest possible.

Rivers Sumana, Sauparnika, and Edamavinahole are overflowing and the water has already entered places such as Badakere, Heroor, Maravanthe, Navunda, Nada, Senapura, Hadavu, and Hakladi.

The people of Salbudam Hadavina Athikone, Kelabailu, Movadi, Chikkalli, and Thoplu had to depend on boats to reach their destinations. Several people have deserted their homes and gone to their relatives’ houses. Shri Durgaparameshwari Temple in Kamalashile in Kundapura has been flooded. Boats have been kept ready on the banks of River Sauparnika to move people residing in low-lying areas in case the rivers cross danger level.

There were landslides at five places in Charmadi Ghat, and according to Mr. Dayanand, the roads are now being cleared to facilitate smooth flow of traffic. Owing to a landslide between Shrivagilu and Yedekumari stations in Mysore Division, the Kannur to Yeshwanthpura to Kannur express through Mangalore Central and the Karwar to Yeshwanthpura express through Mangalore Junction have been cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
