According to Deputy Commissioner N.S. Channappa Gowda, the district administration would take a decision on declaring holiday for educational institutions after monitoring the situation on Monday.

The police said that Chinnappa (45), a farmer, at Harihara Pallathadkka under Kukke Subrahmanya police limits slipped and fell into a swollen rivulet while crossing a footbridge. He died of injuries sustained after the fall.

Krishne Gowda, Executive Engineer, Mangalore Division of State National Highways, said the Charmadi Ghat on the National Highway No. 234 (B.C. Road-Chikmagalur) was blocked for more than five hours following a landslip near Annappa Swamy gudi in Mudigere taluk, Chikmagalur district.

“We received the information about the landslip from Mudigere tahsildar at about 9.30 a.m. The highway was cleared of debris at about 3 p.m. and traffic restored,” he told The Hindu.

Mr. Gowda said that there were some more landslips on the ghat section. But they did not affect traffic movement. “We would clear them,” he said.

The Executive Engineer said that there was a landslip near Ane Mahal on the Shiradi Ghat on NH 48 (Mangalore-Bangalore). It did not affect traffic movement.

The Kadaba police said that the Hosmatha bridge was submerged in waters. It was closed from 6.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. for the first time this year. In Mangalore, strong wind followed by heavy rains in the morning uprooted several trees. Several advertisement banners were ripped apart and hoardings crashed. A branch of a tree near Mangaladevi temple was perched on the electric lines. There were several trunks of palm trees near Marnamikatta Circle. Fire and Emergency Services personnel said that trees fell in Babugudde, near Mangaladevi temple and Hoige Bazar.
