Health department set to hold meet on MRSA today - June 15

Mangaluru, June 15, 2015:  Department of health and family welfare will hold a special meeting June 15,  the management of private nursing college, where students were found diagnosed with Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) and others will participate.


ut khader Recently,  students of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing in the city had held protest alleging the management was careless  when many of them are diagnosed with MRSA. According to students and staff of the college, at least  60 out of 600 students in the institute had symptoms of MRSA.


Minister for health and family welfare U T Khader directed the management of the college to take care of the students, who were suffering from symptoms of MRSA.


Dakshina Kannada district surveillance officer Dr B V Rajesh stated that a special meet with the management of the college will be convened at DHO’s office.  the condition of students, who are staying in hostels will be reviewed .


Visit to the college and hostel premises will check the situation and ascertain whether proper measures are in place to prevent the spread of MRSA.


Around 55 students have been diagnosed with symptoms of MRSA, most of them are not in the hostel, Rajesh said adding that they might have gone home as they were given holidays.
