Mangaluru, Oct 28 : State Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader distributed hearing aids to 133 children at a function held on October 28, Tuesday under the joint auspices of Lions Club of Mangaluru, Mangalagangothri, Kankanady Padil and Chotamangaluru in association with Naseema Institute of Speech and Hearing, Bengaluru and Manasa Cochlear and ENT Centre, Bengaluru.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister while appreciating Lions Club for its kind gesture, assured the co-operation of the government at all times for such initiatives.
Lions Governor Kavitha Shastri, First Vice Governor of Lions Arun Shetty, Cochlear Implant Surgeon, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, District Health Officer, UT Zulphikar and others were present on the occasion.
Those who strived for the success of the hearing aid distribution project were honoured during the function.
Earlier, speaking at a press meet, Khader said the Health Department intends to make Karnataka a hearing-impaired free state and added that DK District has been chosen under the project on a pilot basis.
Referring to the recent murder of Bhajrangdal activist Prashanth Poojary in Moodbidri, the minister said the Congress strongly condemned the murder. On the allegations of BJP leaders that no Congress leader had visited the residence of the deceased, he said the Congress leaders had not visited the residence of even the activist of a Muslim organisation who was murdered at Maarlabail some time back. He also urged youngsters not to involve themselves in anti-social organisations.
