Condemning the act of booking civil and criminal cases on defaulter farmers he said thousands of acres of agricultural land will be inundated due to Thumbe Dam extension project and also Kumaradhara minor hydro-power project. It has been planned to build seven dams from Subrahmanya to Uppinangadi and private companies have inked pact with government in this regard. Farmers in the region are kept in the dark and harassed.

The companies namely ’Bharooka Power Project Ltd’ and ’Kolya Power Project’ have been planning to initiate the work, he said. He alleged that even though 1,083 acre of land will be inundated due to Thumbe Dam extension project, district administration has been misleading farmers by saying that only 250 acre of land will be inundated.

The real information has been obtained through Right to Information Act. Banks are harassing defaulter farmers by issuing auction notices, against Supreme Court orders, he said and urged the government to take action to waive farmers’ loans.
