Mangalore, Aug 4: Jaya Karnataka, a social service organization, organized a protest rally condemning the atrocities committed against Sudha, an orphan residing in the Balikashrama of Mulky, and later submitted a letter to Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh.

The letter states that Sudha’s friend Dharmashree had complained to Jaya Karnataka that Sudha was driven to attempt suicide because Ivorine Amanha, the warden of the Balikashrama, and her assistant Rekha Burnaban harassed her continuously. Sudha, however, survived and is currently taking treatment in the intensive care unit of Wenlock Hospital.

The authorities of the Balikashrama are now trying to hush up the case. They have made false allegations against Sudha and have threatened the other girls that they would be thrown out of the hostel if they revealed any information about the case.

Jaya Karnataka wants the district administration and the police department to intervene in the case, to conduct a thorough investigation, and to punish the guilty.

President Shashidhar Shetty, General Secretary Janardhan Salian, and others gave the press copies of the letter submitted to the police commissioner and urged for immediate action to be taken against the guilty.
