HJS leader Ram Bhat informed reporters on Oct 15, Friday that the organization is compelled to organize such a demonstration because most of the listed structures belong to Hindus. As many as 69 out of a total of 86 structures marked for demolition in Mangalore belong to Hindus. Labelling the demolition drive as an “insult to Hindu society,” he said that it is the duty of the Hindu society to oppose it.

The protest will commence at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sharavu Ganapathi Temple with “Dharmadhwaja Pooja,” after which the protestors will march in a procession toward the DC’s office. Mr. Bhat added that more than 5000 people are expected to participate in the protest rally.

HJS office bearers I. V. Rao, Ramesh K. Nayak, and Kamath were also present for the press conference.
