HC dissolves Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple Committee

Puttur, Nov 15, 2017: In a significant development, the Karnataka High Court  has ordered the dissolution of the management committee of the famous Lord Mahalingeshwara Temple of Puttur. The Court has also ordered the State  Endowments Committee to form a new committee within a month.

A single member bench of the High Court  headed by Justice A S Bopanna upheld a writ filed  by  over 40 people  questioning the appointment of members to the Committee. The HC observed that appointment of some members was against the guidelines of Hindu Religious and Endowments  Act. 


The advocate for the petitioners A Keshav Bhat  while placing his  argument said those with  political background were given preference while making  appointments.
