Mangaluru, Feb 9, 2017: The State High Court has on February 9, Wednesday dismissed the writ appealing to stay the upcoming election to the post of Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor. In the backdrop of this court ruling, the election of Mangaluru Mayor and Deputy Mayor is likely to be held as scheduled before March 12.
JD(S) Corporator Abdul Azeez had moved the court seeking a stay by questioning the reservation announced for the two posts. It may be mentioned here that the Mayor post this time is reserved for a general category lady candidate while the Deputy Mayor’s post is reserved for SC candidate.
A similar petition which was filed by Azeez in 2013 after the Congress won the MCC elections had left Mangaluru without a Mayor for nearly a year.
