Mangaluru, 22 Dec 2015 :Applications for gun license in the pretext of crop protection is inappropriate while The Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 in force in the country; but, farmers in the district may apply for gun license whenever needed.
Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim issued a detailed communiqué on Tuesday 22 December 2015 regarding issue of arm license under the guideline issued by Union Home Ministry and latest circular circulated by state government instructing compliance of regulation and guidelines while issue and renewal of arms license.
More than fifteen thousand gun licenses issued in Dakshina Kannada district by respective Tahasildars and Deputy Commissioner and a slew of application are been processed in certain taluks for granting license. Most of t he license holders failed to renew the licenses afresh as per rules.
Considering the fact that district is communally sensitive and killing of animals banned under wildlife protection act the government restricted the issue of arm license, the DC explained.
As per government circular dated 26.8.2015 only District Magistrate authorized to grant arms license and all other executive magistrate like ADM,SDM and Taluk Magistrate are not empowered to grant it.
