Grief strickes kambala enthusiasts with Rocket Moda’s demise

Mangaluru, Nov 22, 2018: Just on the door step of the Kambala season that is slated to begin at the week end, the iconic Kambala buffalo ’Rocket Moda’ passed away due to age-related issues on Tuesday, November 20 morning.


A Pairu breed buffalo of Udupi,  Rocket Moda, 20 years old, had been mentored by Srikant Bhat. He ruled the traditional folk sport of Tulunadu for the last 15 years by securing nearly 100 medals in Kambala races and winning the admiration of many. Moreover, he along with his partner Kutty had completed the 144-meter distance race in a record time of 13.57 seconds.

Following the news of the demise several people including Kambala fans, owners of various buffaloes visited Srikant Bhat’s house and paid their last respects to Rocket Moda.
