The NECF team took scribes to the spot on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Shetty said the deemed forest in the area  is spread over nine acres and that  several trees located on a two and a half acre land have been felled nearly two months ago, but the same came to the notice of the Federation recently. The remaining portion of the trees after felling, has been burnt, he said.

Though  the contractor concerned has been arrested and an FIR filed,  the Forest Department was now stating that the case is in investigation stage, he further stated.

Environmentalist  Dinesh Holla, said destruction of trees may reduce underground water level in the future and called for concerted efforts to save forest.
