Green corridor created to shift vital organs of accident victim for transplantation

Udupi, Dec 14, 2017:  A green corridor   was created between Manipal and Mangaluru on December 14, Thursday to enable transportation of the vital  organs  of an accident victim for the purpose of transplant. SP Dr Sanjeeva M Patil along with senior police officials ensured all  arrangements were in place.

A car accident at Kota on December 12 had left 36 year old Kasturi and her husband Shanker critically injured while two others  had died in the mishap.

Meanwhile, Kasturi who had suffered serious head injuries  was declared brain dead by the doctors at the KMC Hospital at Manipal on December 13, Wednesday evening following which  her family decided to donate her organs.

The liver was transplanted to a patient at AJ Hospital, while one of the kidneys would be transplanted to a patient at Fr Muller Hospital. Cornea will  be used in KMC Hospital, Manipal while the heart valves were  transported to Narayana Hridayalaya in Bengaluru.
