Mangaluru, June 5, 2015:  The counting of votes of the Gram Panchayat elections held in DK and Udupi districts on May 29, began at different counting centres at 8 am on June 5, Friday amidst high security. In Mangaluru counting is being held at Padua High School, while it is  being held at Vivekananda English Medium High School in Puttur, SDM PU College, Ujire, Infant Jesus English Medium School, Modankaup and Nehru Memorial College, Sullia.  The counting centres in Udupi district are Bhandarkar’s College, Kundapur, Jaycees English Medium School, Karkala and St Cicily’s School, Udupi.

In the first phase, counting of postal ballots  were done.  A total of 7613 candidates  were in the fray in the elections held to 227 Gram Panchayats in DK district while 4,740 candidates  had contested for the 2,126 seats in 148 Gram Panchayats in Udupi district.

Counting has also begun elsewhere in the state where a two-phase GP elections were held on May 29 and June 2.
