Mangaluru, March 11, 2016 : Speaking at a function organised by the Kidney Patients’ Association, Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader on March 10, Thursday said transplantation of kidney, rather than dialysis, was a permanent solution for those with renal failure. “But it takes a long time for the recipient to get a kidney …. there is also a long list of procedures to be followed before the transplant,” he said.
The State government is considering relaxing the norms for transplantation of organs, said Minister Khader; he has already initiated discussion with experts to relax norms for organ transplant.
Earlier, kidney transplant expert Vivek Pathak expressed the need for maintaining a healthy diet and consumption of adequate water to avoid renal problems. Chairman of Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka for Transplantation, G.K. Venkatesh, took part in the World Kidney Day celebrations held at the Yenepoya Medical College.

Being aware of the demerits of dialysis people behave unaware as they cannot meet the cost of the transplantation. The hospitals are commercialized and they give first reference to money and then the patients problem. | |
