Government has not yet released funds: ZP president

Mangalore, Nov 24: “Investigation reports reveal deliberate manipulation of the Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Project. This issue will be discussed at the next Zilla Panchayat (ZP) general meeting,” said K Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, the president of ZP at a press conference organized in his chamber at the ZP building, Mangalore, on Nov 24, Tuesday. He announced that strict action will be taken against the culprits who manipulated the project. 

He informed press people that during the last ZP general meeting, the members had demanded details of all the work done related to this project. However, the demands were ignored. The members, therefore, met the chief minister to discuss details of funds released for various ZP projects. 

He said that, during a meeting conducted in a rural area of Bangalore on Nov 17, 2009, the ZP had formed a union to urge the government to release the required funds. The representatives of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat have already handed over a memorandum to the chief minister, he informed. 

Mr. Kumar also said that the chief minister has promised to release funds required for ZP development projects. So far, the ZP has not received any funds for the 12th financial year. Besides failing to release the sum of Rs 9.17 crore for the 50-54 plan, the government has also not released the sum of Rs. 356 lakhs for the 30 - 34 plan. However, the chief minister has promised to release both funds on time, he said.
