Mangalore, Aug 9: The Students’ Council of the Government First Grade College was inaugurated and its annual magazine was released at Town Hall on Aug 9, Monday. Prof. T. C. Shivashankar Moorthy, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University, inaugurated the event and said that Mangalore University now has better facilities such as computers with Internet access in its library.

Lamenting that education is becoming increasingly commercialized, he spoke of the necessity of providing value-based and high-quality education to the students. He urged the teachers to provide meaningful education to the students and help them shape their futures.

MLA Yogesh Bhat delivered the presidential address in which he said that the city’s drinking water problems have now been solved. He assured that the people will get good roads and well-maintained drainage facility in future. In future, Mangalore will be getting a golf stadium, ring road, and other features, which will be constructed in phases and with the help of generous donors, he said.

He also said that the REPCC was established when a number of NGOs, corporate bodies, and the government volunteered to provide financial assistance to launch projects to decrease infant mortality rate. The government will show more interest in working for the welfare of educational institutions provided the management assures hundred percent result in the examinations, he said.

Mr. Bhat also released “Theru,” the annual magazine of the college.

Principal Prakash Chandra Shishila also addressed the gathering. Radhakrishna, Shivaram P., Guruprasad, and others were the dignitaries on the dais.
