Addressing the gathering, the Swamiji said that Christians are well-known and unmatched for their social service. Stressing the fact that there is one god although there are many religions, he said that it is love, and not law, that can transform society for the better. He also urged those present to pay “tax” to the society by rendering services and lauded the efforts of Christian missionaries, who have been serving people in remote places.

He also voiced his opinion regarding the need for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) among various religious leaders in order to prevent communal clashes, adding that sometimes the judicial system does not recognize good work.

Dr. Bernard Moras honoured the Swamiji, who later presented the keys of houses constructed for poor people, a project that was financed by John Carnelio of Udupi.

Presiding over the programme, Dr. Bernard Moras said that everybody should pray to god in unity and harmony, stressing that all holy books bear the same message.

Those who had donated generously toward various parish projects were honoured on the occasion. Managing Director of Four Winds Elias Fernandez was felicitated for coordinating the programme. Fr. Stanley Pereira was also honoured on the occasion; and a special issue of “Yatrik,” the shrine magazine was released on the occasion.

The other chief guests of the occasion were MLA of Mulki – Moodabidri Abhayachandra Jain, Vicar Var of Kinnigoli Deanery Fr. Alfred Pinto, President of the Suratkal division of SSF P. M. Ashraf Amsadi, and Editor of “Yugapurusha” Kodethoor Bhuvanabirama Udupa.

Louis D’Souza delivered the welcome address, and Relita Coutinho proposed the vote of thanks. A community lunch marked the end of the programme.
