M Subramaniyam, commissioner of customs said officers detained a passenger who arrived by Air India express flight IX384 from Dubai on November 3 with one premium brand speaker/woofer.
The officers subjected the speaker/woofer to a detailed open examination on November 7 and gold in the form of small cylindrical rod which was ingeniously concealed in the inner core of the speaker was retrieved with the help of technically qualified persons. On questioning, the passenger admitted that he had intentionally concealed the gold to avoid detection by the customs and to evade payment of appropriate Customs duties.

The passenger was arrested on Saturday and produced before Sunil Kumar Singh, principal civil judge (senior division) and chief judicial magistrate.
