Give top priority to waste disposal, DC directs local bodies

Mangalore Today News Network

DCMangalore, May 21, 2012: Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, the deputy commissioner of DK, directed all local bodies to give priority to waste disposal and the officials of the Pollution Control Board to visit Bantwal and submit a report on the TMC’s progress in waste disposal. He was speaking at a review meeting held on Sunday, May 20.

He also warned that he will suspend the chief officer of the Bantwal TMC if he fails to identify land to scientifically dispose waste before June 15. The DC also criticized the way in which the MCC disposes waste. He directed all local bodies to get sewage sucker machines and direct the GPs not to use manual scavenging methods.

Further, the DC directed all tahsildars to submit their action plans to tackle natural calamities by Monday. He also stated that a control room will be set up in the DC office, the taluk office, and the MCC office to receive incoming calls only.

He also directed the national highway officials and the public works department to remove trees that fall across the roads and to give details on trees that require trimming to the forest department by May 25.

Suggesting that gruel centres must be set up in Bantwal and Mangalore, he urged the fire service to be ready to tackle any situation during the monsoons.

A. Dayanand, the additional DC; Dr. Harish, the MCC commissioner; and many others were also present.
