Girl kidnaps 5-year-old to raise cash for her gambling lover

Mangalore, Oct 29, 2011 : A 20-year-old girl masterminded the kidnapping of her 5-year-old cousin to help her Mangalorean boyfriend clear his gambling debts of Rs. 10 lakh.

 

The accused Payal Balachandrani of Mani Nagar in Ahmedabad and her Mangalorean lover Nishanth Shetty (21) along with his friends Dhanwik Shah (24) and Devendra Shukla (21) kidnapped Adithya and demanded a ransom of Rs. 1 crore from his parents.

DCP (crime branch) Himamshu Shukla received a complaint, in which it was stated that Payal and Adithya, who had gone out to purchase medicines, had gone missing. When the kidnappers demanded Rs. 1 crore ransom, the police began investigating the case in earnest.

The kidnappers had instructed the family to send the money to a nearby club. They had decreased the amount to Rs. 50 lakh after negotiations. Dhanwik Shah and Devendra Shukla, who had come to the club to collect the cash, were arrested by the police and interrogated. This was how the involvement of the girl and her love affair with the Mangalorean boy came to light.

Police investigations also revealed that they had planned to kill Adithya irrespective of whether they received the money or not because he was a witness to the crime.

Adithya was locked in an office on the seventh floor of Wall Street near Gujarat College. The police found him with Nishanth.

Nishanth Shetty had lost Rs. 10 lakh gambling. His girlfriend, therefore, decided to kidnap the child in order to help him clear his debt.

Police interrogation also revealed that Payal had stolen Rs. 65,000 for Nishanth.
