Girl beaten up by land owner in a tenancy dispute

Mangalore, Sep 14, 2011 : The owners of Vasudev Rao Compound in Varkady Lane, near Bhagavathi Temple at Kodialbail have resorted to beating up of a girl who is residing in the compound for a long time. The incident occurred Today in the morning when the tenancy dispute turned sore.

The tenant Suresh Acharya, who lost his land to the land owners as per an agreement signed by his ancestors, lives in a small house in the compound. The house lacks water connection from the corporation and the family depends on a well constructed in the compound of the land owner.

The land owners want Acharya family to vacate the place. They have raised a wall blocking the well and have removed its rod and pulley to prevent the tenant from using the well. They have been forcing Acharya and family for long  to vacate the house and property. The family now depends on the neighbors for their daily requirement of water.

The Acharya family is using a pathway behind their house as the main approach is blocked by the land owner.  Land owner Rao and his family prevented the girl for going in the pathway today which turned out to argument and beating up the girl. Allegedly, the owner’s son Raghavendra attacked Soumya Acharya, who was on her way to work and seriously injuring her leg. Soumya is employed as an accountant in a private firm near State Bank.

Soumya was rushed to Wenlock Hospital, but the staff refused to admit her because of the criminal nature of the case. She was given medication after an X-ray of her leg.

Later Raghavendra Rao’s brother Mohan Rao assaulted Suresh Acharya.
Madhusudhan Rao and Sitaram Rao, brothers of Raghavendra Rao, had even damaged the wall of Suresh Acharya’s house.

The Burke police refused to register a case when Soumya aproached them.


City police commissioner takes action

City police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has taken note of this case after recieving information from a press person. He has deputed ACP Ravindra Gadadi to enquire into the case.

It is believed that, ACP has visited Barkhe Police station and met the victim. He has assured the victim all help and action against the culprit.

A formal FIR is registered after the intervention of ACP Ravindra Gadadi.
