Udupi, September 6, 2020: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadish has said that all ICU and Ventilator beds in Udupi district are occupied as of now due to the rising Covid-19 cases.
Speaking to reporters after addressing a meeting held at the ZP Auditorium on Saturday with people’s representatives, doctors as well as representatives of private hospitals, he said people having fever, cold, cough and other symptoms should voluntarily get their throat swab test done through any of the 20 mobile teams and 10 fever clinics arranged by the district administration. Those tested positive should remain in isolation at home, lest they may be responsible for the spread of infection thus endangering the lives of elderly at home.
He also stated that it would be difficult to save lives if people resort to self-treatment and get admitted to the hospital in the last minute.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that those tested positive who are asked to get admitted to the general ward of private hospital as per the directive of the district administration will not be charged and their treatment cost of Rs 5,200 per day will be borne by the government. However, if the patients opt for special room they will have to pay the Rs 10,400 fees fixed by the government, he added.
