Mangaluru, Nov 20, 2017: Garbage collection and disposal works within the city came to an abrupt halt after workers of the Antony Waste Handling which is the contracting agency went on a strike on November 21, Tuesday against non-disbursal of wages. It is said the Corporation has not paid the company its due for September and October.
The strike resulted in garbage remaining on roadsides itself at several places in the city. Meanwhile Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer and other officials convened a meeting with representatives of Antony Waste Handling on Tuesday and have reportedly promised to clear the due.
The MCC is expected to deposit Rs 50 lakh in the firm’s account on Wednesday after which the garbage collection is likely to resume.
