Mangalore, Oct 14, 2011: Ujwaadu, the first GSB Konkani movie to be made in the past 35 years, was launched at Big Cinema today at 4:00 p.m. Tickets for the first two days have already been sold.


Ujwaadu has been directed by Kasargod Chinna, the president of the Konkani Sahitya Academy. Of the four full-length Konkani movies made so far, two were in GSB Konkani and 2 were in Roman Catholic Konkani. Ujwaadu focuses on the culture, traditions, lifestyles, and foibles of the GSB community in Mangalore. The movie cost Rs. 45 lakhs and was produced in 100 days.

Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat, Mayor Praveen, Taranga Editor Sandhya S. Pai, Sadashiva Brahmavar, and Meera Padiyar were present. Speaking on the occasion, Kasargod Chinna said that it is heartening to see people accepting regional language movies.


The cast includes Shivadwaj, Neethu, Umashree, Sandhya S. Pai, and many theatre artists. The story and the screenplay is by Gopalakrishna Pai, the music is by V. Manohar, and the songs are written by Shankar Shaunbaug, Puttur Narasimha Nayak, and Seema Raykar. Some of the music has already been provided by Jayanth Kaikini and Bhadragiri Achyuthadas. The cameraman is Uthpal Nainar.
