Mangaluru, Nov 06 2019: The first ever three day International Full Dome Film Festival and Planetarium Conference got underway at Pilikula on November 6, Wednesday under the aegis of Pilikula Regional Science Centre Society and Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society. A N Kiran Kumar, former chairman of ISRO inaugurated the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr H Honnegowda, Managing Director of Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society and Special Secretary of Karnataka Science and Technology Department said it has also been proposed to set up 10 meter dome planetarium at Mysuru Bagalakote and Dharwad. Already works have commenced in Gadag, Raichur and Dharwad, he added.
Dr Mark Subbarao, Director of Adler Planetarium, USA, Scott Niskach, Director, Ivans and Sutherland, USA, Abhijith Shetye of Infovision Technologies Mumbai were the chief guests.
Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, Dr K V Rao, Director of Pilikula Regional Science Centre and others were present.
The three day Film Festival will be open for the public on November 9 and 10 wherein every day nine shows of 30 minute duration each will be held from 9 am to 5 pm. 3D and 2D films of various nations will be screened. Those who wish to attend can book tickets online through BookMy Show, said Dr K V Rao, Director of Pilikula Regional Science Centre. On November 7 the show will be free for students of some select government schools.
