Mangaluru, Nov 06, 2021: After setback in the bye-polls the BJP government at the Centre resorted to a cut in fuel prices realising the public anguish against the soaring prices, said MLA U T Khader.
Speaking to reporters here on November 6, Saturday, he said if it took 70 long years for petrol prices to reach Rs 70, the BJP government took only seven years to cross the Rs 100 mark, he ridiculed.
He said it was an irony that the Government reduced the prices after the bye-polls setback at a time when the Finance Minister herself had said some time back that reduction in fuel prices was not in government control.
He also wanted to know why there has been no reduction in prices of essential commodities.
On the controversy over the proposal to name a circle in Suratkal after Veer Savarkar, Khader said the need of the hour was to discuss public issues rather than naming circles.
