Mangaluru, Dec 25, 2020:     Mangaluru Police have arrested a man from Hosadurga taluk in Chitradurga on the charges of creating fake Facebook Accounts and  putting forth marriage proposals and making false job promises.

The arrested man is Parameshwarappa Rangappa (23) of Kurubanahalli in Chitradurga. He had posed himself as a senior officer of Postal Department  in Mangaluru in a matrimonial website and  had even sent photos   that showed him receiving Rajyotsava Award  to the daughter  of a man in Goa through WhatsApp. When the  woman’s father enquired it came to light that he was not employee in the Postal Department. Later  the postal officials had lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station.

On December 20, the accused had   told two staff of  Armed Reserve Force that  Grade 1 and Grade 2 posts are vacant in the Postal Department.  The  Reserve Force personnel had come into contact with him through a Fake   account in the name of a woman and he had even reportedly fleeced both of Rs six lakhs.

The cyber crime police who investigated the case managed to arrest him at the KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru.

Interrogations revealed that he had 20 fake accounts in Facebook and had even befriended several senior officials of various departments and had cheated them

Police seized a laptop, five mobile phones and a debit card of ICICI Bank from him.
