Four seriously injured in a landslip at Thokkatu

Mangalore, Apr 23, 2012: Four people were injured in a landslip that occurred at a construction site in Thokkotu near Mangalore on Sunday night, April 22.

As it was raining at around 8:45pm last night when the wall collapsed on the labour shed of an under-construction building at Thikkotu.

Huge layers of mud collapsed on the shed in which four labourers working in the site were trapped underneath. The victims have been identified as Kathik D’Souza, Babu Biswas, Mohammed Riyaz and Mendel Pinto from Kolkata.

Ullal police, Fire service and rescue teams rushed to the spot and were able to rescue three and shifted them to a hospital in the city immediately. All the three had sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, Mendel Pinto was rescued after hours of rescue operations. By the time he was pulled out, it was around 3.30 - 4 am. The rescue work was delayed as the rescuers had to carefully dig out the mud layer by layer.
