Puttur, Feb 1, 2015 : The Third Additional District Court of Mangaluru has acquitted Omprakash, a former SI in Uppinangady police stations of graft charges almost eleven years after Lokayukta sleuths filed a complaint against him in this regard.
It was on February 2, 2003 that the Lokayukta police raided the station following a complaint by a local resident named Janardhana Gowda. The Lokayukta had then filed a complaint against Omprakash and another police personnel named Satish for accepting bribe.
The complainant Janardhana Gowda had alleged that the SI had demanded a bribe of Rs 2000 for renewal of gun licence and asked him to pay the amount to the police personnel named Satish. Though both the cops were later suspended, the locals had strongly felt this to be a conspiracy. In fact Omprakash is also the recipient of Governor’s medal for meritorious service.
But since the complaint was filed, Omprakash remained as SI in the office of Commissioner of Police in Bengaluru.
