Former MLA and 46 others booked for damaging public property over the death of Nandita

Shivamogga, Jun 6, 2015: The death of Nandita on Octobrer 31 2014 had resulted in tension and violence in Thirthahalli. There was massive support to Nandita as her parents and the locals alleged that she was poisoned and the culprits are being saved by the political leaders. 

Nandita caseOn Friday, June 6, 2015 after 8 months the policemen filed a charge sheet against the former MLA and 46 others for violating prohibitory orders .


Nanditha was an eight standard student, who was found 5 KM away from Thirthahalli on Oct 29. She wasn’t feeling well on that day and vomitted uncontrollably. Soon she was rushed to Manipal hospital. But as her health rapidly deteriorated, she breathed her last after two days.

Soon there was violence in Thirtahalli taluk, as people had impression that she was poisoned and the accused were protected by the political leaders.

However after the investigation it was confirmed that she had committed suicide.

There were clashes, protests, stores were burned as demonstrations over the death. Prohibitory orders were issued by the police to bring the situation under control.

The case was handed over to CID, and after all the investigation, the reports stated that she committed suicide due to mental illness.

Araga Jnanendra and 46 others have been booked for violating prohibitory order, damaging public property, creating communal tension.
