Mangalore, Nov 13: Donations continue to pour in for the flood victims of North Karnataka.

BASF contributed a cheque of Rs 10 lakhs; Prof K M Kaveriappa, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University, formally handed over a sum of Rs 3,75,600 on behalf of the University Employers’ Association; and MESCOM donated Rs 25,000 to Krishna J Palemar, the district in-charge minister, at the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Nov 13, Thursday. 

Mr. Palemar told media persons that people from all walks of life, from students to salaried persons, have contributed generously to the flood relief fund. Palemar lauded the generosity and kind-heartedness of the people of Mangalore. 

He informed that the state government has released a sum of Rs 20 crores for the Vishwa Tulu Sammelan, which is to be organized in Ujire. This money will be spent on repairing roads and other infrastructure. Rs 1 crore will be spent on repairing the stretch of road from Moodbidri to Hosangady; Rs 60 lakhs on the Bajpe - Kaikamba stretch; Rs 90 lakhs on Maravoor Bridge - Permude; Rs 1.20 crore on B C Road - Poonjalkatte; Rs 2 crore on Charmadi - Ujire; Rs 2 crore on Kokkada - Ujire; Rs 2.80 crore on Poonjalkatte - Ujire; Rs 1.30 crore on Guruvayanakere - Naravi; Rs 1 crore on Guruvayanakere - Venoor; Rs 3 crores on Uppinangady - Gurvayanakere; and Rs 1.20 crore on Thokkottu - Melkar. 

Mr. Palemar also commented on illegal transportation of sand and said that this activity has now reduced because people require the permission of the authorities concerned before transporting sand. Moreover, police officers have the right to investigate such illegal transportation activities. 

He also said that the required steps have been taken to trace the whereabouts of 13 missing fishermen and 2 boats.
