Five brain fever cases at Udupi

Udupi, Aug 20, 2014:  A per recent reports,  five cases in the district are reported with brain fever (Japanese encephalitis) in the past one week, of which four of them have completely recovered. DHO Dr Ramachandra Bairy told that the cases were reported from Marvanthe in Kundapur, Yerthadi and Kalyanpur in Udupi, Mudrangadi and Innanje in Kaup.

Precautionary measures are taken and the patients were treated at KMC in Manipal. He said four of them are discharged and the 14-yearold boy from Maravanthe is undergoing treatment. He will be discharged soon.

The DHO Ramachandra Bairy said that as pig is the amplifier to the virus, utmost preventive measures should be taken.  Each Gram Panchayath should ensure that the pig farms are situated outside the residential areas and proper guidelines should be issued before giving the license.
