notice to belma gram panchayathMangaluru, July 30, 2017: Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr M R Ravi has served notices to five gram panchayats to explain  why he should not recommend to the state government to desolve the gram panchayats, for failing to implement cleanliness activities.

He is reported to have said that the notices have been served to Talapady, Someshwara, Belma, Ganjimutt gram panchayats in Mangaluru taluk and Pudu gram panchayat in Bantwal taluk.

The gram panchayats, declared free from open defecation under Swaccha Bharath Mission and had won Nirmal Gram Puraskar under Total Sanitation drive, have been asked to maintain cleanliness in the respective gram panchayat jurisdiction. They were asked to initiate measures to dispose of the garbage and to check dumping of garbage beside the highways.

“In spite of all the directions, the five gram panchayats have failed in maintaining cleanliness. Garbage was found dumped beside the roads in these gram panchayats. Notices have been served to GP PDOs for dereliction of duty. The PDOs have been asked to reply within seven days. If they fail to reply, then disciplinary action would be initiated against the PDO and recommendations would be sent to the state government to initiate measures to dissolve the gram panchayat.”
