Five Alumni receive Eminent Aloysian Awards during Aloysian Conclave

Mangalore, Jan 3: Five alumni of St Aloysius College received the Eminent Aloysian Awards at Seminar Hall, AIMIT, St Aloysius Management and Information Technology campus at Beeri, Kotekar, in Ullal, on Jan 3, Sunday. 

The awards for this year were conferred on Dr. Amruth Someshwar, the renowned litterateur; Retired Lt. General Biddanda Changappa Nanda; Lawrence D’Souza, the NRI entrepreneur; Dr. Stan D’Souza, the scientist from BARC, Mumbai; and Capt John Prasad Menezes, marine engineer and former president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of the Aloysian Conclave organized by St. Aloysius College in collaboration with Aloysian Partners from North America (APNA) and Aloysian Partners International (API).

Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, the rector of St Aloysius Institutions, felicitated the five eminent Aloysians in the presence of Director of AIMIT Fr. Denzil Lobo. 

Dr. Amruth Someshwar delivered the annual Aloysian lecture on the cultural heritage of Dakshina Kannada. He said that Tulunad is known for its hospitality and welcomes people of all castes and religions. Since times immemorial, the region has been open to trade and commerce. He said that Basel Mission and the Catholic Christian institutions have contributed a lot to the district. The Christian service and discipline is a perfect model for others to follow, he said. He also acknowledged the service of Fr Muller Institutions to society. Dr. Someshwar said that bridges that unite people, and not walls that divide them, are what society needs in modern times. He also said that excessive faith in language, religion, or country will lead to negativity, which will further lead of communal disharmony not only in the district, but also in the rest of the country. 

Joe Gonsalves, the chairman of the organizing committee of the Aloysian Conclave, gave the welcome speech. Alumni N G Mohan, Allen Colaco, Austin D’Souza, Santhosh Kumar Kadri, and Winston D’Souza introduced the guests of honor. Alumnus Neil D’Souza was the master of ceremonies; and Prof Edmund Frank proposed the vote of thanks.
