Mangaluru, Jan 7, 2016 : The Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy has announced its Honorary Awards for the year 2015. The Awards will go to BM Haneef, Bengaluru (Language and Literature), Mohammad K Mata, Uppinangady (Art) and Mohammad Ali Uchil, Abu Dhabi ( culture and organisation).
The Dr Wahab Doddamane Memorial Research Award will be conferred on Yakub Khader Gulwadi while the P Sushila Upadhyaya Memorial Beary Women Award will go to Maryam Ismail.
Informing this to reporters here on January 7, Thursday, B.A. Mohammad Haneef, President of the Academy said the Award presentation ceremony would be held in February.
BM Haneef who has been chosen for the Award is a journalist who has earlier bagged several Awards including Karnataka Patrika Academy Award for the year 2013. He has also translated ’Kanakadasara Jeevana Charithre’ to Beary language.
Another nominee Mohammad K Mata is a film actor, director and writer and has authored several stories. His collection of short Beary stories ’Nande Yeloul’ is to be released shortly.
Mohammad Ali Uchil who is also chosen for the Honorary Award is an active social worker who has been conducting mass weddings. He has also constructed over 100 toilets for the poor in different places in the district and has been striving for the welfare of the community through the Bearys Welfare Forum.
Umarabba, Registrar of the Academy, Khader Shah, District Information Officer, Zohra Abbas and Hameed Padubidri, Beary Academy Members were also present at the press meet.
