Mangaluru, Aug 4,2016: A gillnet fishing boat ’Guru Anugraha’ with eight fishermen has sunk near Netrani Island off Bhatkal on the morning of August 3, Wednesday. The boat had left Mavinkura port at 8:30 AM and did not return till 10:35 AM. The coastal security police (CSP), Bhatkal has reported the sinking of the boat 15 Kms Southwest of Bhatkal.
A total of seven fishermen have been rescued by the fishing boats in vicinity. However Manjunath Karvi, a 35 year old fisherman is missing. Immediately on receipt of information, Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mangalore functioning under the aegis of Coast Guard Karnataka sailed Indian Coast Guard Ship Kasturba Gandhi for the search and rescue of the fisherman on the morning of August 4. The Coast Guard ship will carry out search in the probable area. Another Coast Guard Ship from Goa has also been alerted to keep a sharp lookout for the missing fisherman.
