Mangalore, Oct 27, 2014: A protest was staged in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city on October 26, Sunday by fishermen to pressurise the government to supply subsidized kerosene oil to them. The protest was organised by the DK District Gillnet and Traditional Fishermen’s Association.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali, President of the Association said the fishermen in the coastal districts of DK, Udupi and Uttara Kannada were hit hard due to non-availability of subsidized kerosene.
The Chief Minister who had assured to solve the problems of the fishermen prior to the election, had failed to keep up his promise, Ali said and warned that fishermen would intensify their protest if their demand was not fulfilled.
Nithin Kumar, Naveen Bangera, Vasudeva Bolur, fishermen leaders, Subhash Mulihitlu, Joint Secretary of the Association, BA Basheer, General Secretary and others participated in the protest.
The protestors later submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim enlisting their demands.
