Fire spreads over 300 acres in Muloor

Udupi, May 24, 2012 : Fire spread over nearly 300 acres of land in and around Muloor in Kaup GP on the evening of May 22, Tuesday.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The fire first spread to Muloor and then to Belapu, Uchila, Kapu, and Polya. It did not cause any damage to human life, but destroyed vast fields and trees.

Reportedly, Suzlon had purchased this land, owing to which farmers had stopped cultivating it. Having acquired the land, Suzlon had left it barren for the past 2 – 3 years.

The Udupi fire brigade with the assistance of Suzlon’s fire-fighting unit and the local people stopped the fire before it spread further.

The local people feel that cigarette butts carelessly tossed away might have caused the fire.
