Fencing works of Netravathi bridge underway on war footing

Mangaluru, July 27, 2020: The task of erecting fencing on either sides of the Netravathi bridge at Ullal is underway on a war footing. The project, a longstanding demand has been taken up by the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority. Fencing will be done on both the bridges, one that proceeds towards Mangaluru from Thokkottu and the other from Thokkottu side to Mangaluru. The project has been taken up in the backdrop of several instances of people committing suicide by jumping into the river from the bridge. Cafe Coffee Day Founder V G Sidddartha too had ended life by jumping off the same bridge on July 29 last year.

Ullala-Bridge

Presently, the task of erecting fencing on the left side of the bridge leading towards Thokkottu from Mangaluru is almost 75% complete.

Once the fencing is complete CC cameras will be installed. MLA Vedavyas Kamath who had recently laid the foundation for the fencing works has said that the project is expected to be completed within three months as scheduled.
