FMMC inaugurates new sports physiotherapy centre

Mangalore April 3: The department of physiotherapy of Fr. Muller Medical College inaugurated its Sports Physiotherapy Centre on April 3, Sunday at Fr. Muller Hospital in Kankanady.












Dr. Rakesh Bhandary, a nuclear scientist from Calicut, inaugurated the new centre; and Narasimman S. spoke about the centre. Dr. Jayaprakash Alva, the dean of FMMC, delivered the welcome address. Fr. Denis D’Sa, the administrator of FMMC, introduced the chief guest.

Fr. Richard Coelho, the administrator of FMMCH, released a brochure titled “Women’s Health.” Dr. B. Sanjeev Rai, the CMS, launched the official website.

Fr. Patrick Rodrigues said in his presidential address that the physiotherapy department is launching a sports rehabilitation and fitness training centre, the first of its kind, to cater to the requirements of sports persons all over the district. This well-equipped centre will provide services such as kinesiological video analysis, fitness training, fitness assessment, sports injury screening, rehab training, and injury prevention.

Alka Bhandary donated Rs. 51,000 to the newly inaugurated centre and said that physiotherapy is the best remedy for most health problems. A documentary on Fr. Muller Charitable Institutions formed part of the event.

Karishma was the MC on the occasion; and Sundeep Pais delivered the vote of thanks. A workshop on sports screening followed the formal stage programme.

Dr. Kiran Challangundla, the physiotherapist of the Indian Badminton Team and former coach and physiotherapist of the Deccan Chargers IPL Team and Hyderabad Heros ICL Team, was the resource person. He spoke on various sports-specific topics. A large number of delegates from different parts of south India participated in the workshop.
