Udupi, Nov 2, 2014: The 59th Rajyothsava celebrations witnessed the extravagant pomp and grandeur with the unfurling of Kannadambe flag besides the tricolor here at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College grounds on November 1, Saturday.

Addressing the gathering soon after receiving guard of honor, District-in-Charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that a proposal has been sent to the government to relax the CRZ norms to augment the opportunities aiding the exploitation of available tourism potentials in abundance. The minister added that the district is the hub of many number of tourist destinations and the beaches marking the border of the district is the valuable resource. Hence, it is necessary to relax the CRZ norms to develop the district and other parts of coastal areas in the lines of development of tourist spots taking place in Goa and Kerala. He added that henceforth as many as 10 revenue adalaths will be conducted for the early disposal of all pending files. He added that plan worth as many as Rs 40 crore is chalked out for the four laning of Malpe-Molakalmuru national highway.

The Minister added as the district is agricultural centric, the government has decided to introduce the new species of paddy seeds which has increased fertility rate through agriculture science center. Besides e-Kissan, computerized networking system is introduced to benefit the farmers who can avail the details of various agricultural schemes. The farmers are assured 50 per cent subsidies on purchasing of the farming machineries. The farmers belonging to SC/ST communities can avail 90 per cent subsidy benefits.   Emphasizing over the governments pro poor schemes like Annabhaghya and Ksheerabhaghya, the Minister added that as many as 1,48,872 beneficiaries are receiving 32,950 quintal of rice every month.

While 99,803 students are benefited by Ksheerabhaghya scheme. As many as 2,625 girls will be ensured Rs 11.55 lakh to support their attendance in schools.  The minister added that the government has approved the rural drinking water project worth Rs 21.38 crore for the year 2014-15. Five projects under multi village drinking water scheme are approved for the current fiscal year.

The Minister also stated that Rs 35,435 lakh worth blue print deign to construct 332 vented dams across district has been sent to the government for approval.

The minister informed that Rs 125.95 crore is released for the development of Shiroor, Maravanthe and Kodi harbors. The jatti construction works designed at the cost of Rs 15.79 crore at Gangolli, Hangarukatte and Kodikanyana is in progress. Besides the tendering process for the development of Malpe port as commercial port is envisioned at the cost of Rs 495 lakh.

A proposal worth Rs 122.59 crore is sent to the government to build port at Hejmadi and Kodi. Rs 563 lakh is earmarked to build five women fish markets. The break water construction works at Koderi and Gangolli port is initiated and tendering process for the works worth Rs 135 crore is furnished.

A proposal of Rs 73.13 crore is sent to the government to ensure all basic needs for the devotees during the Karkala Bahubali Mahamasthabhisheka celebrations. As many as 52 surveyors post is filled in the district, he said.

A colorful procession preceded the Rajyothsava celebrations from board high school to MGM grounds. The procession comprised of the tableaux highlighting the rich tradition and culture of the state besides giving away the messages of social cause.

Minister opens women special treatment unit: 
Later,  Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the women special treatment unit which is set up at government hospital, would offer treatment and solace to the women subjected to violence.

Speaking on the occasion he stated the special women unit at Ajjarkadu government hospital  would ensure all facilities aiding the treatment and counseling under single roof. The increasing number of crime against women has created threat to the well being of the females. The minister added that the government is committed to ensure various facilities comprising of security and support system to women in State. He said the present center would enable integrated service oriented care to the victims of atrocities.

The center would provide medical facilities along with police assistance, legal aid and counseling. It will also provide women helpline number. It aims at offering rehabilitation to the victim who is subjected to the violence.  The minister added that the NGOs will be part of the service.  The unit comprises of two doctors, one women police official, four nurses, one counselor and two legal advisers. It works for 24x7 with the helpline number 1091.
