Rai drew the attention of the DC towards the fact that sand extraction was going on unabatedly at several places including Maninalkur, Karpe and Kadeshwalya. He also alleged that a contractor who had got the license for sand extraction in Kadeshwalya was encouraging illegal sand extraction at other places and alleged so far the authorities have not taken any action despite several  requests.

Rai also alleged that those indulging in illegal sand extraction were close to the local MLA and owing to this, he said,   no action has been taken against the illegal activity.
