Endangered whale shark found dead at Panambur Beach

Mangalore, Sep 29, 2014:  A 10-foot long whale shark was found dead at the Panambur beach on September28, Sunday. The beach life guards first noticed the dead shark on the shores.

According to Yatish Baikampady, Chief Executive officer of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project, the whale shark which is an endangered species might have died in the sea and its body later washed away to the shores by the waves.

Even the Coastal Security Guards were informed and finally the Beach Life Guards with the help of locals, dug a pit and buried the shark in the beach itself as it was too heavy to be moved.

No injury marks were found on the body of the shark and the cause of
its death is not yet known.
