Mangalore, July 27, 2014 :     Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Thulasi Maddineni,  delivering the presidential address at an inter-school workshop on ‘Patriotism and national pride,’ jointly organised by Lions Club Mangalore, Centre for Integrated Learning and DK District Ex-Servicemen’s Association, to mark Kargil Vijay Divas at Lions Seva Mandir in the city on July 26; said that at this juncture, along with providing security to the physical borders of the country, challenges lie in securing the cyber system. Cyber attack from a rival can destroy the banking and communication system. The rapidly changing method of war all over  the world, like cyber war has been posing as much threat as that of physical war on the security system of the nation. The fight to dictate the satellite and space systems of a country by rival country could prove disastrous in the days to come, said

Expressing concern over how the cheap mass produced goods from China have entered the Indian markets contributing to the dilution of the Indian economy, the CEO advised patriotic Indians to buy Indian made products and not opt for cheap Chinese made products. “Patriotism is not just fighting in the war field, but doing our bit for the country in every possible way.  Avoiding the plastic usage, buying Indian made products too are symbols of patriotism,” she said.

Speaking after receiving felicitation, Ramesh Karnik, who has served as Air Vice Marshal at Indian Air Force, said there was a need to start coaching classes for students interested to write examination to get admission  to National Defence Academy (NDA). Though  DK  being in the forefront of engineering and medical education, there seems to be lack of motivation for the student community to enter Indian defence forces, he said. DKESA President Col N S Bhandary too echoed this opinion and appealed to the parents and students to shed their reluctance to join the armed forces. Ex-servicemen AVM Ramesh Karnik, Nb Sub Harish Kumar, Bhagawan Shetty and M C Bhadraiah were felicitated. Lions Club, Mangalore President C P Dinesh handed over the key of the building for DKESA on the occasion as donation. MGM College, Udupi, Professor Maj Radhakrishna delivered a motivational talk to instill a sense of patriotism among the students and a love for the country and defense forces .
