Duo travelling in train arrested with Rs 1.40 cr Hawala money

Kasargod, March 14, 2020:  Kasargod Railway Police have seized Rs 1.40 crore Hawala money which was being transported in a train, and  have arrested two persons. The cash was seized from Ankush (38) and Shanker  (29) of Sangli in Maharashtra when they were travelling in the Delhi-Ernakulam Mangala Express.

The railway police on inspecting the train at Kumble found   some suspicious bags and had informed the Kasargod Railway Police. The latter conducted an inspection without haste and found currency notes inside the bags.

The duo had booked ticket for Ernakulam from Mumbai. The seized cash included Rs 40 lakhs worth currency notes of 2000 denomination and Rs one crore worth currency notes of  500 denomination.

The duo have reportedly told the police that they were transporting the cash for lure of Rs 50,000 commission promised by a man who handed it over to them at the Ratnagiri Railway Station.
