Udupi, Nov 05, 2014: Dr R. Vishal, an IAS officer of the 2004 batch, has taken charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Udupi District. Outgoing DC S.S. Pattana Shetty handed over charge to Dr Vishal on November 5, Wednesday.
Hailing from Hubli, Dr Vishal is a medical doctor by qualification and has done his MBBS from KIMS in Hubli. He is also the 14th rank holder in CSE in 2004 Karnataka Batch.
Dr Vishal has the experience of serving as Deputy Commissioner in Gulbarga and Chikkaballapura, as Assistant Commissioner at Chikkody, and as a probationary officer in Karwar. He has even served the NRHM and was Election Commissioner during BBMP elections.
Speaking after taking charge, he said would focus on the several problems confronting the district and try to solve the same.
On the Naxal problem in the district, the new Deputy Commissioner said he would get a clear picture of the same after studying the problem. He also stressed the need for effective utilization of Naxal package.
He further assured steps to check illegal sand mining. Measures would also be taken to ensure that builders adhered to construction norms, he informed.
Dr. Vishal however refused to say anything about the frequent transfers of DCs in Udupi district and said it was the state government which was the decisive factor.
