MLC Ivan said that the state government had given permission to install mobile jammer in the district prison. But, even after several months after sanctioning, the mobile jammer was not installed by the prison officials.

He further said that he had raised a question in the legislative council in February regarding the security measures undertaken in the Mangaluru sub jail. A reply saying that steps have been taken to install CCTV and mobile jammer at the prison, was given by the minister.

He said that the Home Minister Dr Parameshwar will visit the district prison on November 7. As per the information furnished by the Home Department in July, 63.89 acres of government land has been earmarked in Cheluru and Kurnadu villages of Bantwal taluk, to shift the district prison, owing to shortage of space in Mangaluru and urged the government to expedite the process of shifting prison to the outskirts of the city.
