Mangalore, Dec 29: “Vozram,” an anthology of Konkani poems (chutuks) written by Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu from Chicago, USA, and published by Mariads Prakashan, Mangalore, was released at Hotel Deepa Comforts, Kodialbail, on Dec 29, Tuesday, at 4 p.m., by the eminent Konkani leader of Mumbai, Albert W D’Souza. Vishwa Konkani Sardar Basti Vaman Shenoy, the president of Konkani Bhas Ani Samskruti Pratishtan, Mangalore, presided over the programme. 

Albert W D’Souza said that “Vozram” is the fruit of the collective labour of the author, the designer, and the publisher. He said that the book was printing of the book was done in only 10 days.

Aruna Kamath, the lecturer of Economics at SDM College, while introducing Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu said that he has contributed a great deal to Konkani literature. In the seventies, he simultaneously published 3 Konkani magazines, the weekly “Mithr,” the fortnightly “Jhelo,” and the monthly “Kannik.” She said that he has written a number of stage plays as well as radio plays for AIR when he was in Mangalore. He has authored 5 books in Konkani. His new book “Vozram” is an anthology of 3,500 small poems or limericks, popularly known as chutuks in Konkani, rich in vocabulary and wisdom, she said. 

Austin D’Souza Prabhu, who is currently pursuing a successful career in the US, is the first Indian in America to become the governor of Lions 1-A district, she added. 

H R Alva introduced the guest of honor. Ancy D’Souza of Priya Publications spoke about the newly released book. Terry D’Souza, Concepta Fernandes, and Elvina D’Souza were also the dignitaries on the dais.
